Who knows of cars?
My car's steering has been acting funny, most recently wobbling quite a bit as I drive. After some research, I suspect a CV joint to be the culprit. I have an an appointment to bring him in on Tuesday, but of course it transpires that I really need a car to get down to the south bay on Monday. Any car knowledgeable people out there? Would it be stupid of me to risk a 100 mile drive suspecting a bad CV joint?

It may be fine for another 100 miles, but if it isn't, the failure of a CV joint is catastrophic and dangerous. Zipcar or City Car Share for a day?

Yeah just rent a car. When I had a car, I had a similar problem, the wheel would jiggle when I drove. The fix was new tires, mine were unevenly worn. Rebalancing the tires may help also.

When I had a car

Yeah, that's the real answer here, I should just get rid of the damn thing already.

Well do the cost comparison versus convenience. "Car-lite" will cost you a minimum of $11/mo if you don't drive at all (City Car Share insurance). AMEX Blue offers $15 per rental for full coverage when you pick up from a daily rental place. Or you can do what I do, borrow the gf's car. :)

Convenience is really the big one. Street parking and moving a car I hardly drive for street cleaning is getting absurd.

You could always pay for a parking spot. :)

Yeah, on Portland trip I noticed it pulling to the right. That's perhaps an alignment thing. But this wobbling is worse and new (or at least new in terms of its magnitude). I'll know Tuesday!
